Safe work on aerial work

Working at height involves significant risk and is the most common cause of accidents that threaten the health and life of employees. Therefore, it is especially important to take appropriate precautions. So what should it look like? safe work on an elevated platform? Let's check!

Working at heights - basic health and safety rules

Working at height requires strict compliance with occupational health and safety rules. Według occupational health and safety regulations, this is work performed on a surface located at least 1,0 m above the ground or floor level. Health and safety rules when working at heights assume that the area where employees are located is fenced with a balustrade consisting of protective railings at a minimum height of 1,1 m and curbs that are at least 0,15 m high. Health and safety regulations they also say that work must be organized and performed in such a way that there is no need for the employee to lean over the railing of the balustrade or the outline of the device on which he is standing.

Take care of your safety when working on an aerial lift

Increases, in accordance with occupational health and safety regulations, are equipped with 1,1 m high barriers, which makes them devices with a high degree of safety. Safe work on aerial work requires appropriate training and personal protective equipment from employees.

What should you remember?

Basic health and safety rules at work at height assume that in the case of work performed more than 2 m above the floor or ground level, employees should be equipped with equipment protecting against falls from height
Equipment for working at heights mainly: protective helmets, reflective shoes and vests, and safety harnesses.

Helmet for working at height

Helmet for working at height sconsists of the external part - shells, which absorbs the impact energy. The shell may have ventilation holes, a visor and holders for accessories. The next element is truss, i.e. the inner part attached to the shell. It is in direct contact with the head and must be mounted stably on it, which is possible thanks to its use main belt covering the head at the level of the base of the skull and forehead. In the forehead area it is located sweatband, thanks chinstrap the helmet does not fall off the head.

Occupational health and safety shoes

Safe work on aerial work requires appropriate safety footwear. Safety shoes must have soles made of plastic that prevents slipping and falling even when the metal floor in the lift basket is wet.
Safe shoes they can be made of leather or rubber and have metal-reinforced toes to protect your feet from impact or crushing. Since boom lifts are often used for electrical work, they may be a good choice electrically insulating shoes, which (in combination with covers and gloves) protect against electric shock.

Vest

Reflective vests (warning) are an element of protective clothing that should be included in the equipment of people working on aerial work. The vests are suitable for both outdoor work (e.g. in places of heavy vehicle traffic) and indoor work (e.g. high-bay warehouses). They significantly increase the visibility of employees and, consequently, their safety.

Safety harness

Harnesses for working at height their purpose is to support the employee and prevent him from falling or, if he does fall, to keep him in a nearly vertical position, protecting him from falling from a height and hitting the ground. Safety harness they have attachment buckles that allow them to be connected to an approved anchor point in the boom basket.
Safety harnessa they can be equipped with a safety rope attached to permanent structural elements or with a waist belt (equipped with attachment buckles), which is used when working on supports, masts or poles.

Safety on the hill

Safe work on aerial work depends, among others, depending on the type of equipment and adapting security measures to it. It is perfect for construction, renovation, electrical and cleaning work basket aerial lift. Here you can choose from, among others: articulated, telescopic or scissor lifts.

Photo Employee before performing a task on self-propelled electric aerial work platform must read, among others: With occupational health and safety instructions, and the selection of equipment should be preceded risk assessment.

In order for work on a boom lift to be safe, the lift operator must have appropriate qualifications. Device load capacity cannot be exceeded, and during work one must take into account, among others: wind powerabove which work becomes dangerous.

Vehicle limiters

Elevators are equipped with limitersthat increase the safety of using the machine. Among them are speed limiters for working movements, and load limiter. It is part of a measurement system whose task is to prevent the aerial platform from being overloaded, which in turn causes it to lose stability.
It also plays an important role tilt sensor – thanks to the electronic level, when the tilt is too great, the device signals this fact to the operator by flashing the indicator light.

Elevator safety valves

aerial are also equipped with valves protecting the riser, including safety valve (protects the hydraulic system against overload) i controlled check valve (hydraulic lock), which protects the device from falling in the event of a cable break and oil leakage from the actuator.

Safety frame

Movable platforms are equipped with safety frame, which prevents the employee from falling out of the lift basket. It is located along the entire circumference of the platform and serves, among others, to temporarily stop the lift when part of the platform encounters an obstacle.

Regular technical inspection – aerial work service

Guarantee safe work on a lift are regular technical inspections of the machine, implemented by certified companies, such as GIZO. authorized service it usually also allows you to lease various types of boom lifts.
Regarding increases, leaseal price depends on many factors, including the type of device, the time for which the lift is to be leaseed and, finally, whether services with a lift with or without an operator. Aerial lift leaseal can be short and long term, and it depends on its type price increase.
