Lifts are used for many works at heights. Individual models of such machines differ significantly from each other, which is why some of them work only in specific circumstances. Which lift should you choose – telescopic or scissor lift?

Application of scissor lifts

Scissor lifts are very maneuverable. They have small dimensions, so they allow for efficient movement in hard-to-reach spaces. Such machines are most often used for assembly, finishing and installation work. Scissor lifts are available in gas versions for outdoor activities and electric versions that can be used indoors.

The use of telescopic boom lifts

Telescopic lift has a very large side extension. It allows you to lift employees to a height of much more than 20 m. Such a vehicle is used especially for special tasks where low and agile scissor lifts will not work. Telescopic models can move even on very demanding surfaces. Most of them are created for use outside the building, often on construction sites that are still in progress.

Differences between telescopic and scissor lifts

Scissor lifts allow the platform with workers and tools to be lifted vertically. To use such vehicles, it is necessary to place them directly under the point where the work is to be carried out. Telescopic models, however, have a side boom, which allows operation from a distance. This is a good choice when it is not possible to drive to the building in a given location due to ongoing construction works or infrastructure around the facility.

Individual models may also differ in exact range and lifting capacity. These parameters depend on the components used in the vehicle and its purpose.

The most common uses in buildings are: scissor lifts. They have compact dimensions and when the platform is folded, they do not reach the ceiling. Thanks to this, they can enter the hall through the garage door. Telescopic models are much larger, so they do not fit inside buildings. Such devices are most often used when working outdoors.

A very important factor influencing the selection of the appropriate lift is the type of drive. There are combustion and electric models available on the market. The first ones will only work when working outdoors. They emit harmful fumes, the presence of which inside the building is dangerous to the health of other employees and is inconsistent with occupational health and safety regulations.

When working inside the building, it is necessary to use electrically powered lifts. Such vehicles do not generate harmful substances, making them completely safe for people staying in the room where the activities are carried out. Both telescopic and scissor lifts are available in both drive versions.

Which lift should you choose – telescopic or scissor lift?

Choosing the right lift depends on many factors. Both telescopic and scissor models are widely used by companies in the construction and renovation industries. Choosing the right model depends, among others, on: from the place where the work is to be carried out. Large telescopic devices will not work everywhere. However, when activities require lifting employees to a great height, scissor models are abandoned in favor of those with a long side boom.

It also happens that two models of lifts need to be used when carrying out an order. This is especially true when it comes to creating a building from scratch. For this reason, construction companies often have several models of devices, differing in drive type, dimensions and maximum reach.

The choice of the appropriate lift should depend especially on the type of work and the place where it is to be performed.
