Purchasing or long-term leaseal of a basket lift – which is more profitable?

Basket lifts include a group of several types of mobile machines (platforms), among which the most common are articulated boom lifts, scissor lifts and telescopic boom lifts. The purchase dictated by frequent use of the device is associated with high costs and the need to constantly maintain the lift. Long-term leaseal means no operating costs, but you do not own the machine and still bear the cost of leaseing it. Which form is more profitable? It all depends on the individual situation. The decision to buy or lease a basket lift should be preceded by a thorough analysis of your own needs as well as the capabilities of the given device.

Types of basket lifts – how to choose the right one?

Basket lift services are widespread in all industries. The entire group of lifts has one function in common - lifting the user to a specific height. All types of these devices have a basket that increases the safety of people working at height. Over time, basket booms became specialized to perform specific tasks and were divided into several characteristic groups.

Articulated basket lifts

Their function is based on the great maneuverability of the arm of such a basket lift, which, by bending at several points and partially extending telescopically, allows you to reach hard-to-reach places. Articulated boom lifts they have a large range (some can make a full rotation around their own axis) and - depending on the model - reach heights of up to several dozen meters. They are useful wherever access to the destination is difficult and in situations where there is little work space. Compared to other basket lifts, articulated boom lifts have a low lifting capacity, depending on the distance of the basket from the center of gravity of the device.

Aerial telescopic boom lifts

These are the most massive devices of all types of lifts. The basket boom is straight along its entire length and cannot be maneuvered horizontally. It extends to a specific height thanks to a telescopic mechanism. Telehandlers they work at great heights, reaching the highest ceilings among basket cranes. The disadvantage of their work is the relatively large amount of space needed for the arm to freely lift people and loads, as well as the precise positioning of the device so that the basket reaches its destination exactly. In this type of lift, it is not possible to correct the basket position during operation. The device must be folded (including supports) and moved to another place, which takes time.

Aerial scissor lifts

Mechanism of action scissor lifts it rests on crossed arms lifting the platform at the top. These types of basket lifts operate only in the up-down plane. Their range is relatively small, but the mechanism ensures very stable operation and the ability to lift a large load or several employees with the necessary equipment. The location of the basket/platform directly above the lifting part of the device increases stability and safety of work.

Basket lift – with electric or combustion drive

All types of devices can have electric and combustion drives. In most cases, it determines where the device will be used. Electric basket lifts with non-marking wheels are usually used indoors (warehouses, production halls, factories, etc.). These are usually small, compact scissor lifts. Small, electric articulated lifts also work in large rooms. Their smaller size allows them to work freely between warehouse racks or over production lines, in places that are difficult to access for any other type of lift.

The combustion drive, powerful engine, massive 4×4 wheels and additional extendable supports increase the stability of devices operating outdoors, in unpaved terrain (construction sites, forest areas, etc.). Typically, such basket booms are much larger, which is why they require, among other things, more solid supports and protection.

Purchasing or long-term leaseal of a lift – advantages and disadvantages of both solutions

Long-term leaseal of a basket lift, especially when contracts are signed for several years, at first glance does not differ much from purchasing one. This form is often compared to leasing. Is it right? The devil, as usual, is in the details.

costs

Purchase of a lift – the buyer bears a high one-time cost of purchasing the device. It is usually considered when using subsidies or various types of aid programs, but this cost must be borne. You can possibly minimize it by purchasing a used basket lift. When purchasing, it is also necessary to take into account fixed costs related to the use of the device: inspections, insurance, costs of possible repairs, etc. The advantage of this situation is the possibility of selling equipment no longer needed and recovering part of the money invested in the purchase.

Rent a lift (long-term) - the lessor is not the owner of the device, he only pays a monthly fee (the price of leaseing the basket lift is specified in the contract) for the use of the machine and fuel. All fixed costs (insurance, renovation and repair costs, technical inspections) are the responsibility of the party that offers the lift leaseal. It is worth emphasizing that there is a significant cost difference between long- and short-term leaseal of a basket lift, when the price is set per hour or per day.

Capabilities

Buy lift – when planning to buy a lift, you can choose any model from the curlease market offer, tailored to your needs and financial possibilities.

Rent a lift – the selection applies to devices owned by the leaseal company. The contract specifies the period of possession of a given device - in the case of long-term lease it is usually several months to several years. When renewing the contract, you can replace the lift with a newer one.

Comfort

Purchase of a lift – the owner of the machine can freely dispose of his own devices. However, he must find time and funds for storage, servicing, insurance and other activities related to owning a lift.

Rent a lift – the comprehensive service provided by construction machinery leaseal companies saves a significant amount of time associated with regular maintenance of the device. The lessor is only responsible for refueling the machine (in the case of diesel lifts) and paying the monthly leaseal fee.

***
When deciding to lease a basket lift, it is worth checking whether the selected aerial lift model is of good quality and safe (it has a curlease technical examination by the Office of Technical Inspection and third party liability insurance). Information about additional services provided by the leaseal company (does it deliver the device to the indicated address or efficiently provides replacement machines in the event of a breakdown) is also important. In the case of long-term leaseal, price should not be the only factor in making a decision. It is worth choosing a company that cares about the quality of the equipment offered and the safety of people working with it.
