The use of a telescopic loader - not only for lifting loads

A telehandler is one of the most functional materials handling vehicles, intended primarily for lifting loads. But is it only? Not necessarily! This device can be freely used in many other areas of industrial, agricultural and even... aviation. Find out how telehandlers can be used.

Telescopic loader, what is it?

A telehandler is most often a type of front-end forklift equipped with a variable-height boom - hence the name of the device. Its arm, intended for carrying loads, is constructed like a telescope - it can be extended to the desired height and operated both vertically and sideways.

The features that distinguish typical telehandlers are:

  • variable width boom,
  • arm reach from several to a dozen or so meters (e.g. GIZO's offer includes loaders with a working height from 5,75 m to as much as 20,6 m),
  • lifting capacity up to several tons.

These parameters, combined with the mobility of many of these devices, provide a very wide scope for using the equipment. Depending on the equipment used for the telehandler, its functionality can be changed. For example, attaching a basket allows you to transport employees, and installing a crane hook allows you to transport heavy packages or construction materials.

Types of telescopic loaders and applications

Telehandlers, although they have a quite similar design, are available in several versions that differ in functionality. The following types of chargers can be mentioned:

  • front loaders, also called rigid - these are models in which the cabin does not rotate relative to the chassis. They have limited mobility and are useful primarily when the device is used only for vertical transport. Compact loaders are particularly popular among them. Extended versions with supports are also available, providing higher load capacity
  • Swivel loaders – these are devices in which the cabin can rotate relative to the chassis, which makes it easier not only to lift loads, but also to move them horizontally.

Due to the differences in the construction of individual types of chargers, there is also a wide range of possible applications.

How can a telehandler be used? Application examples

Both front-end loaders and rotary loaders are multifunctional devices with high utility potential. That is why today they are used in many branches of activity. Here is an overview of more and less typical applications for these machines.

Telescopic loader on the construction site

A loader on a construction site is an irreplaceable device. It can be used, for example, to lift heavy prefabricated concrete elements, wooden construction elements or large batches of building materials. It also copes well on difficult, excavated terrain. This is mandatory equipment for every investment.

Telescopic loader in the agricultural industry

Although the use of telescopic loaders in agriculture may seem surprising at first glance, in reality these devices are increasingly found on modern farms. Properly selected accessories for a telehandler enable, among others: convenient and quick transport of hay, fodder, agricultural produce, big-bags, e.g. with silage for pigs or grain, pallets, barrels with fertilizer, etc. The telescopic loader can also be used when erecting fences (to move heavy elements), as well as loading and unloading various materials.

Charger as support for the mining industry

Loaders can be used both in open-pit mines - e.g. where road aggregate is extracted - as well as in underground mines. In the latter case, electric vehicles are usually used, which do not generate harmful exhaust gases. The devices facilitate the efficient transfer of loads and even the performance of work related to the mining itself.

Front loaders in aviation

A telehandler is a vehicle that can be seen quite often at airports - especially near aircraft docks and parking spaces. They are used primarily as transport platforms that allow service technicians to quickly inspect a huge machine, refuel it or perform various types of repairs.

Telescopic loader in the wood industry

Frontal and rotary loaders can be used, for example, in a sawmill - they are useful when handling heavy and wide trunks and processed wood. They will ensure safe and efficient execution of tasks.

These are just a few examples of the possibilities of using telehandlers. One thing is certain: this equipment can be useful to customers from many industries. Even if you need such a device for a single investment, contact us. We sell telehandlers as well as lease them. We will help you choose the right equipment that will ensure efficient implementation of any task related to material handling or loading.
